Hacksaw Ridge | Film Review

Hey Guys x

I've done it! I've seen all the films nominated for a 'Best Picture' Oscar! And I must say, it's a great list of movies that everyone should dip into.

But anyway, last on the list was Hacksaw Ridge, which I've just finished watching! (Technically its still on, got about 5 minutes left, but I want to review it early so that I can put up my final Oscar related post tonight!)

This film is about a man called Desmond Doss. He goes into a war as a pacifist, choosing to never pick up a gun or take a human life. He's branded a coward and made to feel like he is wrong to standing up for himself and his beliefs, but is he any use in the war if he won't use a weapon?

I enjoyed this film. I'll admit, it took me a while to get into, and some of the battle scenes went on for way too long in my opinion, but when you look at it as a whole, when you know the story, it's a really great film.

The fact that it's a true story makes it better because, it's you wouldn't imagine that anyone could have really done what was done in the movie, so the fact that it's true makes it so much more profound, and definitely made me more interested in the story to begin with.

Andrew Garfield did a great job in this film! I haven't really seen him in anything else but his acting was great, and it's nice that he's being recognised with a 'best actor' nomination.

It was well-written and well-directed, I don't think they could have done it any better than they did, which is a really great feat.

For me, war-related films have never been my cup of tea. So as much as I think it was a good story, it wasn't for me as much as most of the other nominated films. There were parts where my mind drifted off and I started thinking about something else, but that's not the fault of anyone but my own preferences.

If this feels like something you'd enjoy, definitely go and see it because it is a remarkable story told in a remarkable way.

Young Willy Wonka (Timothée Chalamet) tries to follow his dreams to become a respected chocolatier, despite opposition at every turn . This film was never particularly high on my 'to-watch' list, but it was always on my radar, so I'm glad I've finally seen it. Scarface (1983) | 100 Movies Bucket List

Next up for the Bucket List was another first-time watch! I'd seen the original 1932 film years ago and really liked it, but I never got around to watching this (undoubtedly more popular) version, so I'm glad it was on the list. I really really liked this movie. I'm not sure if I like it more than, or the same as the original, but I definitely had a great time with it. One thing about finally seeing all these classic movies is seeing how much impact they've had on pop culture, and this film is definitely no exception. It's so quotable, there are so many iconic images, and it's one that everyone should watch if they haven't seen it before. The most talked-about aspect of this film is probably the violence, and that's so interesting to see. Not only the way it's spoken about, but also the difference between violence in older films like this and newer releases. My Problem With '8 Simple Rules'

Hey Guys x Today's post might come out as more of a rant, which I'm OK with because I haven't ranted about something in a while! Last year, I started watching the show '8 Simple Rules' when it started playing on Comedy Central. It originally came on between 2002 and 2005 but I didn't watch it when it was first on. Anyway, I really got into it. There were only three seasons, so it was over before I wanted it to be. And I loved this show, and I still love it. Comedy Central doesn't play it anymore but if it did I would dive right back into it because I love a good sitcom. However, I have a major gripe with a plotline of the show, that got more prominent in season 2/3. Let me just explain the characters a bit, so you know who I'm taking about in case you never watched it. American Psycho | 100 Movies Bucket List

This one was a re-watch. I'd seen this film once before watching it for the Bucket List. My memories of it weren't wholly positive - I didn't love the first watch, and while I didn't hate it, it wasn't a film that I was itching to watch again. Though saying that, I knew that I probably would watch it again eventually, because I knew how much of a classic it was. Like a lot of films I've watched for the Bucket List, I liked it more this time around than I did the first time, though I still didn't love it as much as I wanted to. But that being said, I did really enjoy it. The writing was great and Christian Bale was amazing in the role, as were the supporting actors. For me, though, the most iconic thing about this movie is its soundtrack. The songs used are amazing and fit the movie so well. The Matrix | 100 Movies Bucket List

  Next up for the Bucket List was a first-time watch. This is one that I had obviously heard of but knew next to nothing about. I found that it took a long time for me to connect with the story, and even then, while the film was interesting to watch, I never felt particularly invested in it. There were a lot of recognisable, iconic moments that I appreciated, and I get how much of an impact it had on sci-fi (and probably movies in general), but I don't know if it was for me. I somewhat enjoyed it, I understood everything that happened, but never felt connected, and didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to. It could just be that I need to re-watch it, and I probably will, but for a first watch, I didn't take to it as much as I wanted to. But that being said, I'm glad I finally watched it!
